Coolest Nermil Cake

My daughter is obsessed with cats and especially tabby ones. So asked me to make her a tabby cat cake for her birthday and that she wanted it to be funny! So this is what I came up with (after a few attempts!).

I first tried to used basic round tins and mold the cakes together but it would not work for me. I used a medium sized pudding bowl for the head. I used an oval Pyrex dish for the body. I used a sponge mix and just did a raspberry jam filling as a lot of the girls coming did not like cream and it kept together better anyway.

I used roll out icing which I dyed grey, black and kept the white. Firstly I simply layed the grey over the head and oval for the body and tucked it underneath. Then I cut thin strips of the black icing to make the lines of the tabby.

For the paws and ears and tail I used cut off rolls of Swiss roll I had made and wrapped the icing around again and cut out the shapes of the paws and stuck them on using a little water. I just rolled white icing into balls for the eyes.

It got a great reaction from the kids and parents! My friends have asked me to make their kids cakes too. This year she wants a cat standing up on all it’s legs. Sigh, I will let you know how it goes! Have already drawn up a plan!
