I made this Cheddar Cheese Frozen Yogurt Hamburger birthday cake for my son's 22nd birthday. I wanted to try it when I saw a picture of a hamburger cake.
To make the cake I used yellow cake mix and two 9in round cake pans. After the cakes cooled, I cut the crowns off and froze the cakes. I then prepared the 'hamburger' by using chocolate frozen yogurt (because my sister is lactose intolerant and I wanted her to be able to eat some cake also). I used a spring form pan and flattened the frozen yogurt in the spring form pan and froze. While the cakes and frozen yogurt were freezing, I prepared the 'cheddar cheese' with orange colored fondant, a drop or two of green food coloring for the coconut (lettuce).
To assemble the cake: I took one cake and placed it flat side up, put the frozen yogurt (hamburger) on top, added the fondant (cheddar cheese), sprinkled coconut (lettuce) to make sure it would show on the sides and placed the other cake on top of the coconut. I sprinkled coconut on top of the top cake, (because I didn't have any sesame seeds).
My sister-in-law's 21st birthday was coming up and she loves Cheeseburgers and Chocolate and peanut butter. So I cam up with this cake. I made 3 round cakes, all with homemade chocolate cake. I covered the bottom layer with homemade Peanut Butter Butter Cream icing. The next layer, I used a plain chocolate cake, to look like the burger.
Then I made marshmallow fondant to make the toppings. I colored the fondant into the colors I needed and made cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles. With each one, I added different things to them to make them look real. I made the lettuce kind of with a wrinkle and the pickles had some designs on them. And I made the onions into slices. In between each layer of fondant, I added some icing, so help it stay in place.
The top layer is another chocolate cake with the peanut butter butter cream icing, with crushed peanuts on top to look like sesame seeds. I put this cake on a regular paper plate, to make it look more natural.
I got the idea for this Cheeseburger cake from all the other cakes on this web site and I just loved it! My son is 12yr and has autism, and so I thought this year I would try and make his birthday extra special!
The cake is 3 layers. Top and bottom bun are made with Yellow cake mix and the middle is chocolate. All were made in a 9 inch cake pan. Top and bottom frosting was a mixture of white and chocolate frosting and middle was just chocolate.
Lettuce, tomato and cheese were made out of fondant. I used red and yellow squeeze frosting for the ketchup and mustard. And lastly I got the french fry idea from someone else on this web site and used sugar cookies and I took the squeeze red frosting for the ketchup on them as well.
Total time for this including mixing the cake batter was roughly 2 1/2 hrs. So much fun!
I made this Cheeseburger Cake for my son's 9th birthday. Ever since I made his race car cake when he was 3, he only wants me to make his cakes. He was soooo in love with burgers that he decided that's the cake that he wanted. So after careful planning and a lot of food coloring and frosting we came up with this.
The cake is yellow cake mix. The pickles are spearmint leaves rolled out flat. I made yellow and red out of food coloring and frosting. That was the ketchup and the cheese. The seeds are sunflower seeds. It is actually a 3 layered cake and the middle layer was made with chocolate frosting. Remember as you are stacking the layers to put the ketchup, cheese and pickles in between so it looks authentic.
You are guaranteed to keep your guest talking about this cake for years.
