My friend called me for her son’s 4th birthday. He wanted a carrot cake, but not any kind of carrot cake, a Pirate Ship Cake Design. So here is what I created from 2 round cakes.
I used cream cheese icing for the first layer and fondant to cover everything. The fence, the flag, the ladder and poles are made from gum paste that I had let to dry for 5 days to make sure it would be hard enough. I had to insert two wooden skewers in the cake so the ship would not break. Everything was edible except for the Playmobil pirate.
It sure was a success!
