I made this Homemade Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea for my girlfriend who adored Hello Kitties. This cake was my first cake ever. It took me 6 hours total without any help or knowledge of fondant only from what I've seen on TV. I was originally gonna buy her a cake but seeing it would've cost me $80+ I said forget it.
It's just a box chocolate cake that I cut up from a rectangular pan. I made me a template and used the excess for the ears. I then froze it and sliced it in the middle to put in strawberries and cream (cream cheese cream) then decided to put flowers and stuff on the side so that the foil wont make it look dull and hide the half fast cutting of fondant.
I even bought a box from the cake store to make it look all pro. but I made the cake 2 days prior since I didn't know how long or how to make it so some of the cream came oozing out of the bottom.
My 2 year old goddaughter wanted a Hello Kitty cake for her birthday and as her mum by her own admission is useless in the cake baking dept, she asked me to make it for her.
This Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea is a very easy cake and probably the easiest character cake I've made! The cake was made using 4 oz of butter, sugar, self raising flour and 2 eggs. When the cake was cooled I cut round the top to make the head the right shape. I used roll out regal ice and fashioned a bow from the excess using red food colouring and a cake decorating pen to outline it, the eyes and nose were made by using coloured writing icing and the whiskers after a little trial and error with licorice were made by using Mikado biscuits which were perfect and a little more palatable for a group of 2 and three year olds.
For this Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea I made a 10" and a 7" round sponge and placed onto a 16 inch board. I covered each cake separately and put dowels in the bottom cake to hold the top tier. I modeled the figure from fondant to which I added tylo powder (available from cake sugarcraft shops) to give extra strength to the figure. I inserted a wooden dowel through the figure and then inserted it into the top tier.
The flowers were cut from fondant with flower cutters again available from sugarcraft suppliers.
This Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Idea is for my friend daughter's 7th Birthday. The girl is a Hello Kitty fan. On her invitation, there's a picture of Hello Kitty with wings, so I made the Hello Kitty from rice krispies cereal, then covered with fondant.
The cake: 1st tier is chocolate cake with butter cream frosting, 2nd & 3rd tiers are classic white cake with cream cheese frosting covered with fondant.
My friend was surprised, her daughter was happy. It was a hit.
