I just made this cake for a first birthday party. She is a yellow cake with buttercream icing. I used the Wilton recipe for the icing (though I used regular vanilla not the clear kind). I thinned it with 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup to make it easy get a smooth finish. Her eyes and nose are also buttercream tinted with gel colors.
I looked at a lot of photos to get the proportions right and drew myself a template. I made a 9x13 sheet cake which I froze for most of a day and then cut using my own drawing and I shaped it using the natural curve of the cake top. I put in back in the freezer so it was in for a full 24 hours before frosting it, which really helps keep the crumbs to a minimum. I also hand-shaped her bow and whiskers a day ahead out of ready to use fondant and let them air dry. I drew her eyes & nose on with a toothpick until I was happy with the placement. Then piped them on using a #3 tip and then flattening them with my finger dipped in cornstarch. I did a shell border around the bottom edge, added her bow & whiskers and that's it!
This Hello Kitty Mustache Cake was for my daughter's 9th birthday. She wanted Hello Kitty so here it is. It took 2 days to complete. I didn't use my own recipe, just a simple pre-made mix from Coles. I used 4 cake mixes to make it high.
I put strawberry jam between layers so they stuck together then covered in royal icing. I drew up a stencil of Hello Kitty to the size of the cake and used little dots to line where everything was supposed to be. I used icing sugar with color to get the right colors and decorated. everyone loved the cake and was still very moist in the middle which was good. they all went back for seconds.
I tried to use the icing pens but they were really hard to use and made my hands hurt. I recommend using soft icing as it's easier to use, just make sure its thick.
This Hello Kitty Cake Idea was made for a friend's daughter's 4th birthday. She loves Hello Kitty, and I had just taken the Wilton courses. I found a cute picture out of a coloring book, and transferred the outline to a cake. I used a star tip to fill the image, and outlined it in black. I used a simple shell border, and drop flowers.
The hardest part of this cake was getting the colors right! I first tried to use the blue Wilton food coloring, but I could not get this color. I threw out the first batch and then started with a very little turquoise, and then added a tiny bit at a time until I got this color or blue. And, the Wilton pink coloring will not get this color of pint. I had to start out with pink, and then I had to add a tiny amount of burgundy.
I made this Hello Kitty Cake Idea for my sister's birthday. I used a 12x17 cake pan and 3 boxes of cake mix. After allowing it to cool I cut out the shape of Kitties head, which luckily is simple. After applying a butter cream crumb coat, I used a Marshmallow fondant to cover.
For her bow, I dyed some of the marshmallow fondant pink and used a heart, and circle cookie cutter. For the eyes and nose I used a circle cookie cutter and than squished it into an oval. The whiskers I just cut strips. All in all it was a very simple fast cake.
I made this Hello Kitty Pretty Kitty Cake for my 4 year old. Vanilla Frosting with strawberry flavored cake filled with real strawberries inside. I used jelly beans for Kitty's eyes and nose. Black licorice for Kitty's whiskers and Airhead ribbon candy to make Kitty's bow.
